THE STAGLIENO CENETERY
I’m going to tell you about:
from Napoleon’s edict to the poem ‘The Sepulchers’ of Ugo Foscolo, to the rise of the 19th century middle class, of which this great cemetery is a faithful mirror. We will visit a very rich gallery of suggestive and monumental marble sculptures that represent the great genoise families along a path known throughout the world; even by the famous Princess Sissi, the philosopher Nietzsche, the writer Marc Twain, Ernest Hemingway…. and many others. You will be able to pass in front of the sarcophagus and the mausoleums of the local hero of the Unification of Italy like Mazzini, the genius actor Govi, the songwriter and singer De Andre’, Mary Constance Wilde (wife of Oscar Wilde) in the english Cemetery. You can admire the famous Angel sculpture of the artist Monteverde, the celebrated female statue of the “Seller of Peanuts”, a symbolic figure of Staglieno and other mysterious tales.
An open-air museum !!
